Guide - Ranks
The Ninja society is divided by ranks. These ranks symbolize the ninjas level of experience, knowledge and strength. As the shinobi grows in power, he will progress in rank. The following is a guide to the ranks of shinobi:
Academy Student - The lowest rank possible, the Academy Student rank is given to young children who have not yet graduated from the academy yet. They are not allowed to undertake missions and spend their time training their skills in the hopes of becoming stronger. People are only given this rank when they are unable to post.
Genin - The first official rank, the rank of Genin signals a person's completion of the academy and the beginning of their journey as a ninja. They are given the easiest missions as their skills are only developing. They are limited to E and D Rank Jutsus plus 3 C Rank Jutsus and are limited to 10 Jutsus.
Special Genin - Not technically an official rank, Special Genin are simply Genin who have either failed the Chuunin Exams in the past or have been deemed worthy of advancement. They are allowed the same Jutsus as normal Genin plus an extra C Rank and a B Rank Jutsu. They can have a maximum of 15 Jutsus.
Chuunin - This rank is awarded to shinobi who have passed the Chuunin Exams. Their skills are considered to be of a medium level. Every Chuunin is given a flak jacket unique to their village. This jacket is a symbol of their rank and are nearly as valuable as the forehead protector every shinobi receives on passing the academy. Chuunin are expected to lead small teams on missions or teach at the academy. Chuunin can have 3 B Rank Jutsu and are allowed a maximum of 20 Jutsus.
Special Jounin - This is also technically not a rank. Special Jounin are either Chuunin who are not yet competent enough to be a Jounin or Chuunin who possess special skills such as interrogation skills or medical knowledge. They can have 4 B Rank Jutsu plus 1 A Rank Jutsu and can have up to 25 Jutsus.
Jounin - The highest official rank, the rank of Jounin is something to be both respected and feared. They are considered high level ninja who are experts in their chosen fields of expertise as well as being above average in other fields. Jounin usually act as team leaders for Genin, taking on the role of both a teacher and second parent. They are also given the most dangerous of missions. Jounin are allowed 4 A Rank Jutsu and 1 S Rank Jutsu and can have a maximum of 30 Jutsus.
ANBU* - Though not an official rank, ANBU are the most feared of all people in the shinobi world. ANBU act as both assassins and spies, taking on only the most important missions. ANBU members are the most elite Jounin with skills surpassed only by the Kages and Sannin. They always wear animal masks in order to conceal their identity. ANBU may only be promoted from Jounin. ANBU are allowed 5 A Rank Jutsu, 2 S Rank Jutsu and a total of 35 Jutsus.
Sannin* - Another unofficial rank, the powers of a Sannin are often the stuff of legends. These ninja are chosen by the Kage to act as last resorts, called upon only in the most urgent situations. Each village may only have 3 Sannin and they may only be promoted from ANBU. They are allowed 5 S Rank Jutsu and can have a total of 40 Jutsus.
Kage - The ultimate rank. There are only five Kages in the world: Hokage, Kazekage, Raikage, Tsuchikage and Mizukage. All of them are the best in their village and one of the best in the all world. They completely dominate the ninja skills and have a high responsibility of their village. They organize everything from minor events to missions. They almost never leave the village. Kage are allowed 10 S Rank Jutsu and can a total of 50 Jutsus.
